Room 1
The Y0-2 class at Waianiwa have been learning about birds and nests.
So far we have done some great STEM experiments with eggs as well as making our own nests outside using natural materials.
We have also learnt all about kakapo and flamingo.
Making outdoor nests using natural materials.
Here is some of our great flamingo writing and art work.
We are enjoying working with our student teacher Belle Collett for another two weeks while she is on her placement and really excited about the pet day coming up on Friday.
We are also loving the big buddy programme on Fridays where we each buddy up with a senior student and learn new things.
Room 2
The Y3-4 class have been learning about Calligrams Poetry (shape poems).
With a focus on the arts and literacy, the students chose their favourite animal or object and worked on brainstorming words that describe it, such as, taste, shape, feel, colour, etc.
Once this was done, the students created an art piece.
For PE/fitness the class have been practising their skipping skills which helps coordination and encourages the importance of being active.
Along with the rest of the school, Room 2 are looking forward to swimming lessons coming up in our community heated swimming pool here at Waianiwa School.
Room 3
The Y5-8 class have had a busy time back in the classroom after the school holidays.
Along with the reading, writing and maths curriculum we have had a focus on Art and PE, learning about Maui and the Sun and some of the children had a day with Dr Sue Galloway where they spent a day focusing on all things science, making plastic from potatoes, learned about archeology... “Whose Bones Are Those” and learning about the periodic table.
With the great weather the class have also been outside having a go at different sports for the upcoming summer months.
The students are looking forward to the after-school tennis sessions on offer from the Otahuti Tennis Club starting this week.
Room 3 has been enjoying being out in the sunshine playing Tee-ball.
