Celebrating Southland Schools
12 October 2020, 7:02 PM
Due to the unusual circumstances of 2020 we have seen changes in school practices all around the country, indeed, the world.
We feel very lucky to have been able to continue learning and connecting safely, with our Community.
Our Matariki celebration this term, included a weaving workshop.
Thank you to REAP and the team of weavers who supported us.
REAP has also supported our Kapahaka programme this term.
Although there is no competition this year, our students have participated with enthusiasm.
The Senior students have been working towards an Enviro-schools Bronze Award.
Activities have included studying our own backyard (local environment); reuse, reduce and recycle; and where our food comes from.
This study has produced beeswax wrap and colourful art along the way.
The Senior students also organised two fun events this term.
The first was our Wacky Hair Day, to raise funds for the Southland Charity Hospital.
The Junior children took the opportunity to ‘ rock’ the Wacky Hair look.
The second event was our ‘Wheels Day’.
The students were able to bring wheels of their choice, and it was great to see the creativity displayed in making a safe traffic space for all to enjoy.
Well done everyone.
We have a group of students who are taking the Sacrament of Reconciliation next term and we plan to support them in a special Mass.
Term 4 also includes Athletics, Swimming, Pet Day and end of year celebrations.
A busy time ahead!
We take this opportunity to thank our parents/ caregivers and community for their continued support and understanding, amid this very unusual year.
