Celebrating Southland Schools

10 October 2022, 8:08 PM

CLASS ACTION: Riverton School

This has been a great term to have some normality back in our school lives.

We have been busy this term providing many awesome experiences for our tamariki.

Welcoming our parents and families back to assemblies has motivated the children once again to strive for their best.

The children really do enjoy showing off their completed work and projects.

We were fortunate to have Cycle Southland come and run a Bike Safe programme for all our children.

It was a fun way to learn all the skills.

Riverton entered a couple of teams at the WS Netball tournament and one of our teams played very well and managed to win the Yr 5/6 trophy.

Riverton Primary is always proud to support a charity each term and this term we supported Daffodil Day and we enjoyed the Spring season dress-up.

A group of fine young boys were given the opportunity at Aparima College to learn how to use a taiaha, during the Rakau lesson from Scott.

During the term, we held two huis for our parents.

The first was our PR1ME Maths evening and the second was our whole school Maori hui.

It was great to see all the families joining in the conversations.

Over the year we have been running our ROX programme.

This is our outdoor exploration class where we take a few children to learn in our local area, in the bush, beach or along our rivers.

These children learnt how to make fires using a magnifying glass and flint.

Cook on open fires and discover the insect life above and below.

Southland Cricket came out for the day and coached the children on the basics of cricket and how to enjoy the game.

E Capital entertained the children with an interactive show on the history of Maori and our land.

Whaia Jenny took the opportunity to practice Kapa Haka out on the court in the beautiful spring sunshine.

The singing was so good and blended into the bird song around the school.

To complete the term we had four lucky finalists, who will be joining Aloma the Aparima principal to make chocolate at the Chocolate Shop Invercargill.
