Celebrating Southland Schools

21 November 2023, 8:11 PM

CLASS ACTION: Myross Bush School

For the last 3 years, Miss Ashworth has been working with our ākonga building momentum with Jump Jam.

Each year we have received placings at the Invercargill Competitions and this year we took up the invitation to attend the National Jump Jam Competition in Christchurch at the start of November.

It was a special trip for the team and support crew.

We entered into the "Year 5+6 Advanced" section allowing us to include a costume and modify our dance by 30%.

The outcome was:

  • 4 out of 4 Excellence Awards (Costume, Presentation, Execution and Creativity)
  • 3rd place in the South Island
  • 6th place Nationally

We are so proud of our team and what has been achieved!

On Tuesday 7 November, the author Jennifer Somervell spoke with all our ākonga and shared with us her passion for writing and the books she has recently written.

It was great to have her back and talk with a real life author.

Yesterday our Enviroschool Leaders and Mrs Polaschek travelled to Hedgehope School for the Enviroschools Hui 2023!

This was attended by 14 schools from around Southland.

The focus for the day was ‘Climate Resilience and Waste Management’.

Our leaders participated in eight workshops on all sorts of things including saving our waste, composting, finding out what’s in our soil, pest control and the Bugman (a favourite for most!)!

They all came back with some great ideas to try next at school as we plan for 2024.

It was great to connect with other Enviroschools too.

We now look forward to our Myross Bush Enviroschools Bronze Reflection on Monday, 27th November.

More information about this event and a public invitation will come out shortly.

Today we have St John's delivering a range of First Aid workshops for all our ākonga.

These are received well as our learners practice important and practical steps they can take to look after themselves and those around them.

On Friday 3 November, we entered a number of teams in the Southern Zone Football Tournament at Turnbull Thompson Park.

The weather was great and our teams performed very well.

The results are:

Yr 1&2

1st - MBS Jets

2nd - MBS Stars

3rd - Ascot Lions

Yr 3&4

1st - Rimu Black

2nd - MBS Chelsea

3rd - Tokanui Bobcats

Yr 5&6

1st - MBS Arsenal

2nd - Tisbury Kicks

3rd - MBS Phoenix

Thank you to Mrs Lemin and Mrs Sinclair for organising and overseeing the day.

Thank you also to our Coaches and parents who helped!
