Celebrating Southland Schools

CLASS ACTION: Mossburn School

Kia ora Southland App readers,

Welcome to Term 3 at Mossburn School, the best little rural school in New Zealand!

Since our last update we have been super busy!

Firstly, our Term 2 Friday afternoon Clubs programme commenced in Week 5.

The tamariki had 6 clubs to choose from: gardening, wool craft, dancing, biking, gymnastics, table tennis and LEGO Stop Motion.

We were fortunate to have members of the community giving up their time to come and run some of the clubs.

Disco & Parents’ HERO Seminar

The tamariki had a groovy disco to fundraise money for Hone Hato St John whilst the parents had a seminar at school on using HERO.

It was fantastic to see the tamariki dressed up in bright colours and having such a great time.

Thank you to the Year 6s (along with Whaea Tanya) for doing all of the organising on the night.

Charm Cards

Seven of our amazing tamariki have completed 20 Charm Cards already this year and have had the chance to either spin or choose from the prize wheel.

It has been fantastic to see so many Charm Cards getting filled in each week.

One week, every single tamariki in the school had finished a Charm Card!

Rugby Southland Activator Sessions

We had the first of our three Activator sessions with Ethan and Georgia from Rugby Southland.

We did some neat drills and played a really cool version of sea weed with rippa tags.

We are looking forward to our next two sessions in August.

Biking Club

On the last Friday of Term 2 the Biking Club cycled all the way from Mossburn to Lumsden and were back in time for Assembly!

It was great biking weather and wouldn’t have been possible without Whaea Tanya’s organisation, and help from the Websters and Amy Heenan (and One Fine Day)!

Term 3

August is looking like being a super busy month as well with our Ski/Ice Skating Trip on the 9th August and Polyfest on the 27th August.

As always, thank you to our wonderfully generous and supportive community and our superstar staff; we couldn’t do it without you!

Nga mihi nui,

Tracey Doak
