Celebrating Southland Schools
26 August 2020, 6:06 PM
On August 7 a belated farewell for Mrs Susan Ibbotson was held.
Susan has been teaching at Mararoa School since March 1991 and finished at the end of term 2 this year.
Unfortunately due to lockdown farewell celebrations had to be delayed until the beginning of term 3.
There was plenty of laughter and even some tears as past and present students, staff, BoT and PTA shared their memories and made formal presentations in recognition of her long and dedicated service to the school community.
We wish Mrs Ibbotson and her husband Ross all our very best as they begin a new and exciting chapter of their lives in Kaikoura.
Ms Baigent, Mararoa School Principal, bestowed Susan with the School’s Korowai Ako (Cloak of Learning) and presented her with her Leavers Certificate.
Current senior students shared their memories and stories followed by the presentation of a photo book recording memories from her time at the school, which was made by her term 1 students.
Afternoon tea began with the cutting of the Farewell Cake.
