What’s happening at Lochiel School
Lochiel School was excited to have Ann Robbie come along and talk about the work she has been doing in regards to restoring and record keeping of war memorials and honors boards in Southland.
Recently Ann has been raising funds for this work by selling silhouettes of a soldier cut out of poplar plywood.
As a school we got in behind this fundraiser to assist her with her work.
We also got behind the local Winton Volunteer Fire Brigade Team to help them raise donations for Superhero Friday (the 28 hour treadmill challenge).
Lochiel School loves supporting the community, and as such we raised over $200 for both Ann Robbie’s work and the Superhero Friday venture.
Well done Lochiel School.
The school turned a shade of pink to get in behind Pink Shirt Day to reinforce the message that we Speak Up, Stand Together and stop Bullying.
In Aotearoa, Pink Shirt Day works to create schools, workplaces, communities and whānau where everyone feels safe, valued and respected.
There were a lot of ducks in the Lochiel School grounds on Friday, 6 May, along with some duck hunters who were dressed up for the occasion.
This day is very much an annual day on our school calendar.
In true Lochiel style, everyone got behind this event with over 50 students participating in the duck calling competition.
Every year this event gets bigger, and the students get more skilled at their duck calling.
Our classroom walls are full with glorious art to make the school bright and welcoming.
Students really enjoy learning the techniques and processes that come with the teaching of this subject.
