As usual, our wee school, with a huge heart, has been very busy.

Our roll is nearly 100 and it has been wonderful welcoming so many New Entrants over this term.

Art has been a focus over Term 2 in our school, with students spending a day researching various ANZAC themes.

The pupils focused on how best to present their information in an artistic manner using differing forms.

Many students were fascinated by the symbolism behind different coloured poppies.

Recycling Art

Over this term, we also hosted Janet de Wagt (a Southland artist) who worked with all our pupils, utilizing media that could be recycled into artistic works.

This art can be viewed at Janet’s exhibition “Coastal Murihiku” at He Waka Tuia. 

Lochiel School hosted Junior GATE Science this term where ten of our students attended a fun day of intensive learning.

Our students have a strength in Science and thoroughly enjoy being extended in this area.

The Central Cross Country was held last week, where a huge number of our students (23) represented the Eastern Sub Zone.

Finally, this term many of our senior students have participated in online and face to face chess tournaments with some very exciting results.

Online nationally, we received a 2nd and 3rd in the intermediate division, and at the recent Chess Power tournament at James Hargest Senior Campus, we were placed 2nd overall in the intermediate division.

We are now eagerly awaiting information on who is through to the national tournament in Rotorua next term.
