Celebrating Southland Schools
11 May 2022, 9:57 PM
Hedgehope School is a fabulously modern and truly up to date, future focused environment bursting with resources and wonder.
Our student whanau are curious, dazzled and hugely appreciative of the modern spaces and resources that the BOT and PTA have tirelessly supported.
Student efficacy and agency gives powerful voices to students to lead their own interests for learning.
This year our overarching theme is Curiosity, with an added focus of Local History, students have their own passions, big questions and timelines.
Hedgehope’s Forest School involves a weekly adventure into the local bush for a 2 year biodiversity and restoration project in Sherwood Forest.
We have 2 classes with 29 students currently who all love to learn!
We all REACH for Greatness in everything we do!
Our inquisitive local history research has led to some interesting discoveries and even more wonderings.
Students have really enjoyed exploring the history of the area between The Makarewa and Mataura Rivers.
Thank you to all that have contributed their knowledge and interests so far.
All students are now collaborating as authors and illustrators to create a picture book about the area's history.
Students have created four characters to narrate the story, they have evolved from our four bird classroom logos, Piwakawaka, Kereru, Tokoeka and Korimako.
We aim to complete the draft for launch on Friday 8th July 2022 at Hedgehope Hall during a community wide celebration.
Students will be creating a delicious menu for our student chefs to cook and Keith McKenzie will be with us to reflect on artifacts from the Hedgehope School Time Capsule that was buried in 1986.
If you have any connections with Hedgehope School and would like to reconnect with the current community please get in touch [email protected]
