Kia ora and welcome to Hauroko Valley Primary School in class action where we have been…
communicators, singers, writers, innovators, thinkers, illustrators, supporters, mathematicians, readers, team members = learners!
Term 3 is here and we are abuzz with activity.
We want every student to love the challenge of learning to read, write and be number savvy and excited about a variety of opportunities.
Check out our Term ahead!
Winter Sport continues for our Year 3&4, Year 5&6 and combined team of Year 7&8’s from Western competing in the Southland Hockey Competition.
All hockey players have been committed to weekly games through Term 2 and the hockey skill development is impressive, thanks to our coaches.
All the best to each team as they head into semis and finals.
Netball season is upon us for our Year 5&6 and Year 7&8’s with the Western Southland Tournament followed by Southland Netball in Invercargill.
We thank our parent helpers that have offered to coach, manage and transport our children.
Term 3 sees a focus on oral language as our Year 1-3 students prepare poems for HVP’s Poetry Recitals.
This learning provides our tamariki with rhyme, rhythm, figurative language and enjoyment through poems.
A feature on our calendar for our Year 5-8 students is presenting speeches.
Students have crafted their writing around a topic to inform, to persuade or to entertain.
There are a variety of requirements at this level where students are marked against the content of their writing and also in the delivery of their speech.
We enjoy presentations where students have opportunities to showcase their public speaking talents!
Miharo Polyfest is a highlight on our calendar with all students preparing for our cultural performances. This opportunity provides our learners with immersion in The Arts - Music & Dance and Learning Languages. There are numerous leadership roles for our Year 7-8 students as students and staff work together to develop our performance items. We can’t wait to share with you! Save the date - Friday 27th August 11.30am, Stadium Southland, Invercargill.
Totara class have been engaging in inquiry learning about our awa - the Waiau River.
The Waiau Rivercare Group has worked alongside our students to further develop knowledge in and around it's importance to our community.
A collaborative entry was part of Miharo Polyfest Art Exhibition with an award presented for whanaungatanga.
The presentation represented children from both Hauroko Valley Primary and Waiau Area School showcasing the unique connections our children have to our place.
We are delighted to have been part of this special project thanks to Christina Vaughan
Next up is Parliament as Libby and Tomas represent the voice of our communities tamariki at the select committee hearing as part of the Waiau Rivercare Group.
HVP’s annual Ski Trip for our families provided an opportunity for students to learn skiing and snowboarding skills while supporting each other.
Coronet Peak had fabulous weather conditions and snow resulting in a brilliant day out.
Two of our Year 8 boys have had their writing and illustrations published in ToiToi - A New Zealand Journal of Young People's Writing.
Congratulations to Hunter Norman for a cleverly crafted entertaining piece of writing about a local legend’s adventures down on the farm.
Congratulations to Nick Cade for superb artwork selected to feature in ToiToi 24 showcasing a fabulous local business “Fowle Contracting” and he was commissioned to design artwork to complement Hunter’s narrative!
