Kia ora Southland App readers.

Welcome to Hauroko Valley Primary School’s first-in-class action for 2025.

We started the year with a meet-and-greet to welcome new students, staff, and families. This is always a valuable time to connect with people at our place. Our house groups are all sorted to start our new year, following a successful swimming sport won by Waiau House. Congratulations, this is their first win of our house trophy. Good Luck to our four School Houses - Clifden, Orawia, Takitimu, and Waiau for the challenges this Term. Who will take out the Term 1 title?

Hauroko Valley Primary School page is proudly supported by Rabco Ag Ltd

Welcome to Holly, who joins our teaching team. We look forward to getting to know you and supporting your teaching journey as kaiako/teacher.

Introducing Hauroko Valley Primary school leaders, Cassie, Boe, Fergal, and Maddi. These 4 students have continued to aspire to and work towards leadership opportunities, in their time at HVP. We are proud of their diligence in taking on additional roles and responsibilities throughout the school. They are ready to lead and support others representing our people and place.

Our School House Leaders have also been selected. This is a combined process where students indicate who they think, and house teachers and staff are involved in this selection. We have so many outstanding students to choose from. Check out these dynamic duos of - Clifden House - Dusty & Finley, Orawia House - Jonty & Louie, Takitimu House - Jack and Daniel, and Waiau House - Isaac & Lola.

A visit by Harold & Teresa is an annual highlight. The Life Education Trust mobile classroom is an engaging highly interactive teaching and learning session for our tamariki. We are so grateful to have this opportunity to provide to our chidlren. Our Health Education focus throughout Term 1 is Identity and Resilience. Lessons covered these aspects for all learners. Resilience is being flexible and being able to bounce back when unexpected things happen. This is something we are working to develop both at home and school.

This term is busy with athletics preparations, first our Interschool at Waiau Area School, then Western Southland athletics at Takitimu Primary School and to end Southland Primary School Athletics Championships at Surrey Park. Several Year 7&8 students competed in the Southland Secondary School Triathlon Championships. Well done to students excelling in these events and making the most of opportunities presented.

Great basics of technology. Photo: Supplied

Technology is a highlight on the calendar for our Year 7&8 learners. They’ve been following the designing process while at Sewing and Woodwork. The first project for the woodworkers was a clock. These have been personalised by each child, thanks to their creativity. Meanwhile, our sewers were fully focused while using the sewing machines to test fabrics and learn the skills to thread the machine and use the needle, hands, and pedal. Ka pai to mahi!

If you are keen on a trail ride, we have the amazing annual Blackmount Trail Ride on Saturday 15th March. This year we have a change of location with our families up the Lillburn hosting. Check the poster for all details. We look forward to seeing you there for a fabulous feast of food, views, trails, and of course good old Southland hospitality! Thank You to our amazing sponsors for their support. Your contributions enable us to provide resources to support our learners. You make a BIG difference to what we can do for our people and place - THANK YOU!

Thank you for following our in-class action through the Fiordland Advocate/Southland App. We look forward to reconnecting with you and Hauroko’s Happenings later in Term 2 of 2025!
