Due to the change in the Alert level settings from Red to Orange, we were able to welcome family and community members back on site!!!
How Exciting this is, We loved catching up with you all.
We had the facilitator of our staff Maths Professional development spend time with each of our classes.
Rob Profitt-White is from ‘Just in Time Maths’ - The Learner First’ and he modeled a variety of maths teaching and learning approaches in our classes.
It was great to learn from him.

RUMA PAPA
Ruma Papa has had a very busy and exciting Term 2.
We have had lots of new students coming in to our class this term.
It has been fantastic to see them making friends and settling into our routines quickly.
In Maths, we have been learning about position and orientation.
We created our own story about a cheeky monkey and all the places he liked to hide e.g, above, below etc.
I have been super proud of all the children in Ruma Papa, as they have shown perseverance in their learning and they have been incredibly kind and inviting to those visiting our class.
RUMA AWA
This term Ruma Awa has been learning how to write instructions.
We have written instructions on how to look after a pet, brush your teeth, make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and finally how to make pizza.
We had a pizza party and the children all brought in different pizza toppings.
We followed our instructions and made pizzas for lunch.
Everyone was very happy with their pizzas, they looked and tasted delicious.
RUMA MAUNGA
One of the projects we did in Ruma Maunga this term was the STEM Rocket Challenge.
Students learned about the engineering process, Newton’s 3 laws and then they worked in teams to design, test and redesign their very own water rockets.
In the end the rocket that was launched the furthest went over 25m in distance!!!
We were very impressed with our students’ teamwork, creativity, problem solving and perseverance in this full term project.
Maths in Ruma Maunga - Written by Aubree
Last Monday in Ruma Maunga we had Rob come in.
Rob is a very very smart man.
Rob goes traveling around New Zealand to schools and teaching them new ways to teach maths.
On Monday he came to teach us lots of activities relating to place value.
We did a move n prove and we were expanding, regrouping and nesting numbers.
We also had a few teachers from schools come in from Invercargill and some from our school to observe and learn.
The students in Ruma Maunga really enjoyed it and learnt some stuff they didn't know.
Some teachers thought that the kids in Ruma Maunga were mathematical geniuses.
CROSS COUNTRY
Our Cluster Cross Country was held on Friday 3rd June 2022 we had 9 students represent Drummond at the Cross Country Running Central competition in Dipton.
Well done to Aubree, Bailey, Whitney, Joella, Gracie, Rubie, Jacob Beer, Toby and Tane.
All of the students put in top effort and we are very proud of their efforts!
Some top results included Tane with a 5th place, Toby with a 4th place and Bailey placed 2nd!
Tane then represented the Central Schools cluster at the Southland Cross Country, coming in at 23rd.
Great achievement Tane.
NEW WINDOWS
Our new windows and doors have been installed, and the building and painting teams are doing the final touch ups and finishes.
The new windows and doors look fabulous, and will allow for greater ventilation in our classes.
OSCAR
Oscar is a much loved Drummond School personality … and he is quite the poser!
He featured in all our class photos this year and we all really enjoy having him at school.

MATARIKI
Week 8 marks a new chapter in New Zealand’s history with our first ever Public Holiday to celebrate Matariki.
Matariki is a special occasion in the New Zealand calendar, and marks the start of the Māori New Year.
Signified by the Matariki cluster of stars reappearing in our night sky, this is a time to reflect on the past year, celebrate the present, and plan for the year ahead.
YOUNG EINSTEIN QUIZ
Today, two teams of our senior students competed in the Young Einsteins Quiz at Winton School.
Though no prizes were won, a great time was had by all who attended.
Our Year 5-6 team of Max, Aubree, Kobee & Hannah especially loved the Music section, while our Year 7-8 team of Charlotte, Lily, Cash & Richie’s favourite section was Science and Nature.
EARTHQUAKE SIMULATOR
We had the Earthquake simulator at school.
All classes had the chance to experience what a ‘real’ earthquake feels like.
CENTRAL CUP
Ruma Maunga are competing at Central Cup in Invercargill we wish them all well !!
