Invercargill's Christmas in the Park returns to Queens Park this year, with those behind the event determined to grow from the debut show last year.

Organiser Blair Savory, of MASSAV Productions, said it has been a challenging year for everyone and he was eager to make sure Invercargill's Christmas in the Park event went ahead again this year.

Many cities throughout New Zealand hold Christmas in the Park events and Savory said he worked hard last year to ensure Southlanders got the same opportunity.

He is keen to build on that when the 2020 Christmas in the Park is held at Queens Park on Saturday, December 19.

The free public event will include music, activities, food vendors and people can also bring their own picnics if they wish.

"It's a great recipe, families enjoying quality entertainment in the wonderful surroundings of Queens Park," Savory said.

"I've been delighted with the support that various Invercargill organisations have provided to try and ensure this family friendly event can go ahead for Invercargill,” Savory said.

The Invercargill City Council had again embraced the concept and played an active role in ensuring the Christmas buzz reaches “our world-class park," he said.

Entertainers already confirmed include Sam Cullen, Michael Kuresa, Lachie Hayes and the Roof Raisers, Jet Set, Suzanne Prentice, The Saints All Male Choir, Filth Wizard, the all ages whanua group Te Whanua a Kiwa, and “the star of the show, Santa”.

More entertainers are in the pipeline and Liv Cochrane will MC the event, Savory said.

"I really want this event to be the opening act to the community's festive season and showcase the quality talent we have here in the deep south. There will be something for everyone," Savory said.

A stage will be set up at the Queens Park band rotunda on Saturday,December 19, with the festivities starting at 3pm and continuing until 9pm.
