New Zealand womens champion shearer Sacha Bond will be back in Southland next month, in an ambitious attempt to become a double world record holder of the sports two most prestigious events.

The King Country shearer is well known to Southlanders after setting a new 601 8-hour strong wool lambs world record at Fairlight Station earlier this year (4 Feb).

Bond's attempt to break both the Women’s 9-Hour Solo Strong Wool Lamb Shearing, and Ewe Shearing Records will take place at Pāmu farm's Centre Hill Station near Te Anau on the 19th December and 14th February.

The current 9-hour world record for strong wool lambs stands at 661 (Gore, 14 Jan 2021) - held by New Zealand's Megan Whitehead, while the strong wool ewe world record is 452 (Tiraumea, 15 Jan 2018) - held by New Zealand's Kerri Jo Te Huia.

If successful 30-year-old Bond will become the first shearer in modern history to hold both records at the same time.

Bond intends heading south on the 10th December and says she’s super-excited to be putting herself up for another big day.

“Training has been going well and shearing has been pleasant."

"It’s amazing to see all the shearing world record attempts happening this season, and I am wishing everyone success with their journeys,” she said.

Pāmu CE Mark Leslie said the station was proud to back the pursuit of farming excellence and hosting Sacha was one way to support our rural communities.

“Her track record and ambition are phenomenal and it's great to see more and more inspiring women at the top levels in farming."

Meanwhile five shearers will also be attempting to set a new world record early next year near Gore.

Max Winders, Trent Howes, Trevor Holland, Ben Boyle and Josef Winders, all from Forde Winders Shearing, will be attempting to set a new five stand 8-hour strong wool lamb record on Sunday 14th January at ‘Campbell’s Block’ in the Hokonui Hills.
