Care village project gets huge funding boostILT president Alan Dennis and HCG working group member Neil Lewis

A $495,000 grant from ILT Group has pushed an innovative aged care facility project towards its fundraising goal.

The ILT Group has confirmed the funding support for the Hawthorndale Care Village Charitable Trust.

The village, to be built on the site of the former Hawthorndale School on Tay Street in Invercargill, is an aged care facility inspired by the world leading Dutch dementia village, De Hogeweyk.

Its design and the delivery of care removes the institutional/hospital feel and with residents living in small groups in houses where the rhythm of everyday living is tailored to each individual.

It will be the first of its kind in South Island.

Hawthorndale Care Village working group chair Sarah Hannan said the grant will give a much-needed boost towards the overall funding requirements of the village and helps them move a step closer toward construction in 2022.

The project has just $2.3 million left to raise via donations, having secured $4.2m of donated funds over the past 18 months.

This brings the overall funding to $30.7m of the required $33m development sum.

ILT group president Alan Dennis said the organisation is always looking for new funding opportunities, especially ones that align with its values and vision.

"The Hawthorndale Care Village is a wonderful example of a facility that will have a positive impact on our older people now and in the future," he said.

"We are immensely pleased to be able to support our community affected by dementia.

"The project had an ambitious fundraising target which the working group, board and its partners have already made good inroads towards achieving.
