Tonight’s planned flushing flow has been cancelled due to the current high river flows as a result of recent rain.
Any further updates regarding rescheduling the release will be via our Facebook page and the Southland App.
Meridian Energy is planning to release a flushing flow from Manapōuri Lake Control Structure to the lower Waiau River commencing at 10pm Wednesday 10 May.
The release is made under Meridian’s consent conditions and a protocol to release a flow to assist in managing nuisance periphyton in the lower Waiau River when surveys at nominated downstream locations indicate a release.
The release will reach a peak of 180 -190 cumecs, at Manapōuri Lake Control Structure, receding to around 20 cumecs and minimum flow at around 3pm - 4pm on the afternoon of Friday 12 May.
With the start of the duck season, the river and surrounds may be busier than usual. We encourage all river users to take extra care during this time.
