Cameras mounted on a robotic platform will be looking down wastewater pipelines in Gore and Mataura over the next three weeks, providing the Gore District Council with a clear picture of the condition of its network.
The CCTV assessments will be carried out this week in Broughton Street, Ardwick Street, Birch Lane, Hobson Street, Oldham Street, Richmond Street, Green Street and Bury Street.
3 Water Technical Engineer Stuart O’Neill said the assessment will assist the Council in proactively managing the infrastructure, much of which is quite old.
“The technology we are using provides a better understanding of the existing performance of the pipelines and will greatly assist us in planning a renewal programme.”
Residents are warned there may be some odour in their home while the work is being carried out in their area, which Mr O'Neill said is not dangerous.
“If residents experience any odour the best thing is to put the toilet seat down and open a window for ventilation. The odour should last no more than 20 minutes.”
The work is being undertaken by contractors Intergroup. They will be working between 7.00am and 5.00pm each day.
Anyone concerned is asked to contact the Council on 209 0330.
