Eastern Southland firefighters are responding to a controlled burn that has gone out of control south of Mandeville.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager Daniel Reilly said the landowner had called fire authorities around 15 minutes ago requesting assistance, with the fire having jumped the containment lines.

Mr Reilly said two crews from Gore, one from Balfour, and one from Riversdale were on their way.

There had been no injuries from the fire, nor properties in danger of being damaged as well, he said.
