State Highway 1 at Clifton has now reopened following a major fire at the Freight Haulage's palm kernel storage facility on Lake Street yesterday (10 Mar).

Two Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews remain at the site this morning where they are continuing to dampen down hotspots and fully extinguish the fire.

Heavy machinery is expected to be brought in this morning to start clearing the palm kernel.
