A low avalanche hazard now exists above the Milford Road.

Challenging weather conditions are forecast from tonight and throughout Tuesday.

Some snow is expected to the road near the tunnel starting overnight tonight but turns to heavy snow from tomorrow morning with up to 50cms possible.

The road will close tonight, from East Gate (Hollyford) to Donne River (Westgate, at 4.30pm and it is likely to be closed much of Tuesday.

However some limited access by convoy maybe possible.
