It will be a big one.

The Invercargill Harness Racing Club’s Cup Day takes place on Saturday 17 December and will feature the Ascot Park Hotel Invercargill Cup, a Group 1 race with a stake of $100,000, the first time a Group 1 race has ever been held in Southland. Backing up the Cup will be a Group 3 race, the David Moss Trot with a stake of $30,000.

Southern Harness Racing General Manager, Jason Broad, says “it will be a massive day of quality racing with some of the best fields seen in the south guaranteed.”

Along with a superb programme of racing there will be some great entertainment and the opportunity to win some wonderful prizes.

Ladies Fashion In The Field features some superb prizes and is supported by McLeay Jewellers, SuperValue Plaza and Craig Heyrick of Harcourts Real Estate.

Every bet placed, win or lose over $10, will go in two draws to win… and win big.

The first draw will be made prior to the Cup with tickets drawn from the barrels for each runner in the Cup. The ticket holder that draws the winner wins $1000 while second takes $300 and third $200.

Another separate draw will be made to win a stay at the Peninsular Beachfront Resort in Mooloolaba courtesy of the resort while the Beach Road Holiday Park in Invercargill will put $1000 towards your travel.

Race goers will also be entertained by incredibly popular fiddle player Hannah Beer throughout the day.

The race meeting is a twilight event due to commence at 4pm, ideal for groups to celebrate Christmas even if they work on a Saturday.

The club welcomes inquiries about marquees and tent sites.

While most indoor hospitality spaces are gone there are a small amount left.
