Southland artists are being invited to open their studios or galleries for Southland's first Art Trail.

Southland based Arts Murihiku is behind the idea, which they say has worked well in other parts of the country, creating value for both artists and communities.

The agency's aim is to see the trail up and running over the first and second weekends in September.

Arts Murihiku is funded by Creative New Zealand and has an aim of increasing arts participation in the Southland, the Queenstown area and West Otago.
