A search is ongoing this evening for a person missing in the water at Glenorchy, near the Glenorchy Reserve.
Police and ambulance were called around 4pm to reports one person was in trouble in the water.
"Despite efforts of other swimmers, people on jet boats, and a helicopter, the person has not yet been located," a police spokesperson said.
Police remain at the scene.
Last Friday, Linkin Kisling, 48, of Wanaka, died near the same spot, north of Glenorchy Wharf, where the Rees River meets Lake Wakatipu.
Kisling, also known as Leroy Kaaho, was trying to save his 10-year-old son but was pulled under the water by strong currents.
The boy survived after being pulled ashore by a member of the public.
The Otago Daily Times is reporting today's events mirror last week's tradgey. A man entered the water to go to help a child, who was in trouble close to the river mouth.
The child was saved by others but the man did not make it back to the shore.
