Initial tests of algae at Lake Te Anau near South Arm Drive show mostly harmless species, with some potentially toxic strains.
Much of the growth has since disappeared, and larger patches further up the shore are aquatic plants rather than algae.
Because some toxic algae have been detected, further testing is underway.
Please continue to avoid this section of the lake.
We’ll share updates when results are available.
Thanks for your patience as we complete this investigation.
