Friends, Romans and aspiring actors alike are invited to audition for Shakespeare in the Park Charitable Trust’s 25th performance, to be staged in late February and early March next year.
Shakespeare in the Park Charitable Trust President Angela Newell says people who have always wanted to try their hand at Shakespeare should feel welcome to come along.
“No experience is necessary,” she says.
“We want actors, singers and musicians as well as people who might be keen to provide back-stage support, costumes, puppetry and props.”
Shakespeare in the Park has spent quarter of a century sharing a love of Shakespeare with the community both on-and-off stage, and the Trust is always looking to welcome more people into the fold, she says.
The show, Sweet Swan of Southland, is a 70-minute pastiche of Shakespearean scenes that focus on love, death and hope as a travelling troupe of thespians connect with their audience through pieces from Much Ado about Nothing, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and A Winter’s Tale.
“It’s a family-friendly show, with lots of easy-to-understand material.”
Auditions are being held at Te Whare Taupua on Sunday, December 15 from 11am to 12pm and from 6pm to 7pm.
For more information please email [email protected] or contact them via their Facebook page, she says.
