Southland District Council works for the residents & ratepayers of the southernmost territorial authority area in New Zealand.
Southland District Council manages more than 30,979 square kilometres of NZ.
We look after most of Southland (excluding Gore & Invercargill which have their own councils).
General Information
Southland District Council is responsible for the day-to-day running of our communities - looking after water, wastewater, stormwater, rubbish, animal control, cemeteries, environmental health, libraries, parks and reserves and roading.
Through regulatory services, such as building control and resource management, Council ensures standards are met and the environment is looked after.
