Both the large and the small auditoriums are available for private hire for screenings of any movie we are currently showing, with use of the foyer if required.

We can also help and advise on catering, alcohol licensing and ticketing options to help make your event a success.

THEATRE FACILITIES 

The main auditorium and backstage area was extensively refurbished in 2008. It seats 450 people and is available for movie screenings and live shows

. 

Facilities for live shows include a full range of dressing rooms, a counter-weighted flying system, theatrical services infrastructure, and an on-stage area 12 metres wide and 9.8 metres deep.

The smaller auditorium seats 78 people and is primarily available for movie screenings.

It is also suitable as a small meeting/conference facility. 

PARKING

The SBS ST James Theatre does not have a customer car park.

However parking is generally available on Irk Street, where parking is $1 per hour for up to two hours.

Parking is free after 6pm weekdays, Saturday afternoon, all of Sunday, and public holidays. 

THEATRE ACCESS

There are no stairs in the entrance to the theatre foyer, but access to both theatres is by stairs. 

For movies, wheelchair access is only available in our 450-seat theatre.

Access is via a ramp outside, down an alleyway at the right of the building.

Please phone in advance to check which theatre a movie is screening in and inform staff if assistance is required.

Almost all live shows are in our 450-seat theatre which has wheelchair access via a ramp to the right of the building and four spaces for wheelchairs in the front row. 

THEATRE BOX OFFICE / MANAGERS OFFICE

The Box Office for live shows is at the left of the counter and for movies is at the right end of the counter.

The Box Office is open every day. Monday to Friday 10:00am – 8:00pm, Saturday to Sunday 12:00pm to 8:00pm.

The manager’s office is to the right of the sales counter.

Tickets for live shows can be purchased at the Theatre, or online via iticket.co.nz or ph 0508 i-TICKET (484 253).

When booking your ticket, please indicate if you have any seating or other requirements.

TOILETS

Toilets are located to the rear left of the main foyer and as they are on the ground floor are wheelchair accessible.

There is a wheelchair access toilet in both the male and female toilets.
