An easy hike on the first section (southward) of the Kepler Hiking Track, this walk through mature beech forest starts at the Te Anau hydro control gates, and follows the south west side of the upper Waiau River to Rainbow Reach.

You can leave the track at Rainbow Reach, or continue southward to Lake Manapouri's Shallow Bay (6km).
