SAMUEL, Leanne

LEANNE SAMUEL RN,RM, MHSM

  • QUALIFIED, EXPERIENCED AND READY TO SERVE

✓ I HAVE THE SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & PASSION TO HELP

 I am a passionate Southlander, and have worked as a Senior Nurse, Midwife and Clinical Leader for over 35 years. I hold 2 Clinical Degrees and a Master’s Degree in Health Service Management. I have gained successful clinical, governance and operational leadership experience in several health and disability organisations.

 Last year, I worked for the successful Wellington DHB(CCDHB), which was a real eye-opener for priority setting, leadership, workforce, focus on quality improvement, and focus on good healthcare across the entire community.

✓ SOUTHLAND’S HEALTH SERVICES ARE AT RISK

 Southland services are at significant risk and the SDHB must look at new and improved ways of delivering healthcare. Cancer, Cardiac, Maternity, Maori, Pacific, Mental Health, Disability Support areas are but a few services, SDHB, are failing with. Southlanders deserve/expect the majority of services to be provided - same quality, level of access and priority to that of other cities. Southland services should be strengthened and not lost to Dunedin! We must have an innovative, well-resourced, qualified, Southland based, safely staffed and listened to workforce.

✓ WE MUST SPEAK UP IF WE WANT IMPROVEMENTS

 You can trust me to straight talk/speak out when I bring my expertise, passion, commitment to the board, to drive change in culture and expectations.

 I bring governance experience, as a Director, on 2 Health Boards, one a Rural Health and Hospital Trust, the other a Pacific Island Health and Social Services Trust.

✓ LET’S MAKE PROGRESS & EMBRACE INNOVATION

 It is important we embrace new technology and science to enable safe modern healthcare e.g. new treatments, using our smartphones, telehealth etc. We must ensure we are contemporary in how we plan, fund and deliver services across our communities. Therefore, we need strong governance and operational leadership with excellent skills, clinical knowledge to improve our healthcare outcomes.
