Candidate for
Experience and knowledge count.
My previous governance experience as a board member of the Southern DHB Board and other organisations means that I know how decisions are made and how funding and services are allocated. I understand the language, the finances and the needs of Southerners.
It is important to elect people who have the knowledge of how our complicated health services delivery system functions, and how governance at a regional level operates.
We need to take action to correct the downsizing and service withdrawal from Southland that has taken place under Commissioners regime. The southern district has received significant additional funding without providing corresponding additional services, and there are long-standing internal tensions that need to be resolved in the interests of people needing treatment.
Everyone in the region must have equal access to services and not be disadvantaged by geography.
