The Shepherdess Muster is a three-day immersive festival to bring rural women together for a weekend to focus on themselves.
No kids, no work, no chores or commitments to juggle. Just the chance to relax, create, learn and unwind with friends, new and old.
The Shepherdess Muster has the spirit of a retreat with the vibe of a festival – staying on site together is what makes it truly special.
You can bring your own tent, caravan, camper or horse float, and camp for free – or, for a bit more, you can opt for a pre-set-up tent with a comfy mattress and bedding waiting for you.
The ticket price is all inclusive of food, workshops and entertainment. Plus, there is a cash bar, market stalls to browse, wellbeing and beauty therapists by appointment, and access to women’s health services.
The Shepherdess Muster is designed with input from locals, with the local community at its heart. The festival celebrates Murihiku Southland talent and businesses, while also introducing fresh ideas and experiences from elsewhere.
The Shepherdess Muster is for any woman who’s rural – or rural at heart.
From rousies to stock agents, shearers to fencers, farmers to teachers, nurses, mums and makers – if you’re part of rural life, The Muster is for you.
The 2026 Shepherdess Muster builds on the success of our inaugural gathering in Mōtū, Te Tairāwhiti, in 2024, where more than 250 wāhine came together for three days of connection, kōrero and creativity.
