The Eastern Southland Gallery's fundraising appeal to purchase Jo Ogier’s series, ‘He Wai Apakura - Te Ara Pounamu / The River's Lament - A Pathway of Treasures’, has been going well with nearly 75% of the target reached.

To help get us over the line the Gallery is holding a QUIZ NIGHT & AUCTION, on Saturday 14 June, 7pm at the Croydon Lodge Hotel, Gore.

Combining the fun of a general knowledge quiz with the excitement of an auction of art, books and experiences, this promises to be an entertaining night for art and quiz lovers alike.

Auction lots include: A ‘Cooking the Catch’ cooking class with Judy Taylor, Two Nights' Accommodation at a Central Dunedin Airbnb, Bundle of Native Plants, Printmaking Workshop with Artist Jacqui Byars, and artworks by such artists as Dick Frizzell, Fane Flaws, Jacqueline Byars and Graeme Stradling.

There will also be raffles, a silent auction and spot prizes on the night.

All proceeds from the evening will go towards the purchase of Jo Ogier’s series of 26 paintings which explore the many species of native flora and fauna that once defined Maruawai and the wider Mataura River Valley.

Digitisation will allow for all 26 images to become backdrops for permanent displays of taonga within the district’s new Maruawai Centre museum facility, allowing for future long-term community engagement.

It will be an invaluable and ongoing education resource for schools particularly in the areas of mana whenua history, science, biology, and art.

Tickets are $20 per person, which includes some refreshments.
