Enjoy a relaxing afternoon printing at Whare Taupua.
This is a one-off event for Southland Heritage Month
This hands-on printmaking workshop explores the theme “Heritage & Women’s Roles in Aotearoa”, drawing inspiration from the whakataukī:
"He wahine, he whenua, ka ora ai te tangata." (A woman, like the land, sustains the people.)
Participants will create their prints using drypoint and embossing techniques, incorporating lace doilies to symbolise the traditions, strength, and resilience of wāhine throughout history.
Guided through the process, attendees will leave with a unique artwork honouring women's stories and legacies in Aotearoa.
This session encourages creative expression while fostering a deeper appreciation for printmaking as a storytelling and cultural reflection medium.
No prior experience is necessary—most materials will be provided, and a printing press will be available for use.
Participants are asked to bring a pad of A4 watercolour paper (12 pages) to use for their prints.
Participants can bring a pad or there could be a cost to cover that element ($10 from office max)
