Gordon Duston, a watercolour artist based in Ōtatara, has been immersed in art for over 80 years.
His artistic journey began as a child, sketching on pieces of cardboard from biscuit tins at the grocery store his father managed.
Over the years, Gordon's creativity evolved from those early scribbles into a diverse range of styles, working with various mediums such as acrylic, oil, pen and ink, and ultimately settling on watercolour as his preferred form of expression.
Inspired by his travels both within New Zealand and abroad, Gordon's art captures the essence of the landscapes he encounters.
Rarely traveling without his painting gear, he makes room even on tramping trips for his compact Winsor and Newton Field Pocket Set and a small sketch pad.
His sketches and recorded colours serve as a foundation for larger paintings created in his studio, where he brings his vivid memories to life.
