Arts Murihiku Proudly Presents - Mini Fest

Arts Murihiku Proudly Presents - Mini Fest

Sat 17 May 2025, 3:00 AM - Sun 18 May 2025, 5:00 AM

Arts Murihiku delivers Miniature Arts Festival

The Mini Fest, as the Arts Murihiku team are calling it, offers locals an opportunity to participate in three creative modalities across the weekend while showcasing two original artists from the Lakes District.

Southland-born award-winning singer songwriter and Nook Road Productions vocal practitioner Anna van Riel will kick off Mini Fest on Saturday May 17th with a workshop on vocal mechanics.

Just $10 thanks to support from Invercargill Creative Communities, this 2hr dynamic workshop will offer participants aged 16+ a functional toolbox for tension-free breathwork and singing.

The evening of the 17th of May invites a listening audience to an original concert interwoven with stories and anecdotes from van Riel’s travels from around the globe. Performing a collection of folk, jazz and blues songs from her upcoming album, Anna will be joined by Invercargill quarter bass player and vocalist Renee McGinnis and promises opportunities for belly laughs and audience participation.

To round off the Mini Fest events, Whare Taupua is excited to welcome Queenstown playwright and actor Julian Noel, who will be presenting his one-man show BONES. Audience members become a vital part of Noel’s show as he journeys with them across time and pivotal events.

Reviewed as gritty, hilarious and culturally pivotal, the show takes viewers on a journey of Māori lineage, grief and evolution.
